The 18th Annual Ethnic Minority Business Conference

The 18th Annual Ethnic Minority Business Conference, the UK’s benchmark event on diversity and entrepreneurship was held on October 28th in Birmingham, UK. This year’s Conference provided an opportunity for CREME and its partners to reflect on the learning and progress over the last 10 years towards its mission of ‘Making diversity and enterprise everyone’s business’.

Following a lively and successful day Professor Monder Ram OBE. Director ,Centre for Research in Ethnic Minority Entrepreneurship ( CREME ) said:

” The Conference proved to be an excellent opportunity to profile the work of the ERC and CREME. It’s clear that there is a great appetite amongst academic and non academic stakeholders for the collaborative work we are pursuing”

Professor Kiran Trehan, CREME and Co-Director of the Enterprise and Diversity Alliance said :

“The Conference brings to life the different ways in which the Enterprise and Diversity Alliance (EDA) is changing the research, policy and practitioner agendas for the development of minority enterprise. It is a unique event that embodies the real strength of diversity and the entrepreneurial talent that is to be found in all our communities.’

Amongst the speakers on the day was Professor Mark Hart ,Deputy Director Enterprise Research.Centre ( ERC ) who  said:

” On the 10th anniversary  of CREME it is still somewhat surprising to be talking about the Data challenge that is faced when we are talking about the diversity agenda. Given the importance of the EMB’s to local and national growth the absence of comprehensive data is holding back the development of more focused business support interventions. Progress has been made but there is still a long way to go.”
